The reason most concrete slabs fail is due to natural settling, this is where the soil underneath the concrete slab will either expand, move or compress. This can happen due to many things, the main cause is weather i.e. water will cause the soil to swell and the sun which can dry soil out, meaning the soil is less dense and more likely to compress.

If a sidewalk has dropped below the original elevation due to natural settling then this can be a serious cause for concern as it could cause a trip hazard that could injure the people using the sidewalks.

A driveway may have settled to the point where water drainage will be directed towards a house’s foundation. This could not only cause serious structural damage which could be incredibly costly to pay to fix but it also endangers anyone in the house because to a certain degree the house can become unstable.

Concrete lifting, also referred to as slabjacking is the most common and applicable repair method for smaller repairs. Slabjacking  involves pumping a concrete mixture under low spots in a concrete slab. This added volume evens out the low spots it also displaces any water the can accumulate, Slabjacking is an excellent way to repair slabs and displace any water underneath which can also help protect against natural settling.
