Magnum Piering’s Helix Foundation System products are sometimes referred to generically as helix piers, helix anchors, helicals (or correctly: helices), screw piles or earth anchors. Helix piers are screwed into the ground using a hydraulic torque motor. The lead or first section is designed with one or more helix blade(s) welded to the pier’s shaft, and each blade cuts its way downward into the soil as the pier is rotated by the motor. Additional pier sections called extensions are added to the lead section until the desired pier depth and installation pressure is achieved.
Once the Helix Anchor is in place, pier caps are installed according to building plans. Typical poured foundations will require a horizontal Grade Beam Pier Cap, while poured concrete walls will necessitate use of a vertical Wall Pier Cap. A new application has been introduced, giving builders and homeowners an alternative to traditional concrete footers and walls when building an additional structure. Magnum Piering has introduced a new pier cap that supports and bolts directly to wood framing, eliminating the need for any concrete foundation.
Magnum’s Helix product line consists exclusively of round shaft piers, a design that provides considerably more lateral strength and stability than older designs that utilize a square bar shaft.
As seen the case studies below, Helix Anchors can be used vertically in new construction when there is a question of soil stability.
