Chemical Grouting

When concrete or other surface material is poured, there are a few things that need to be done to guarantee its continued integrity. One of these things of course is to make sure that the concrete is actually stable. Normally there will be gaps in the concrete, and not all of them can be fixed right away. Occasionally this will lead to cracking, but luckily there is a way to fix the problem before it starts.

The process is known as Chemical Grouting. Through this process a solution is poured or injected into the cracks or the air pockets, and it will spread throughout the concrete. In most cases a hole will be drilled in the spot that one wishes to take care of and the grout will be inserted under pressure. Pressure grouting is extremely useful in many situations. For one thing it can repair bridges, tunnels, and even mines.

When the initial drilling is done for the chemical grouting, flow paths are created so that the chemical can reach each and every part of the concrete. This ensures that any leaking will be stopped immediately and the concrete will last for a while longer.

That brings us to the two types of chemical grouting: Structural and Water. Obviously you understand the two types because they’re fairly simple, but to be clear, we’ll start with water control grouting. The idea behind water control grouting is to stop leaks.

There could be an underwater structure, or even an aquarium built from concrete, and if there is a leak, then there is a huge problem. What appears to be a small leak at first can easily turn into a huge leak and cause some serious issues. These issues can even become dangerous if left alone for long enough. On that note, make sure you have your concrete inspected regularly for water leaks.

The second type of chemical grouting is for structural control. This is mostly to make sure that a structure actually stays standing. Without these treatments a structure can easily crumble and cause serious problems that could even lead to the collapse of the building. Chemical grouting is obviously one of the most important things you can do for any structure if you want it to stay standing for any length of time. There was a time that we did not have this type of technology, but now that we do, you should take advantage of it. You could either be reinforcing the foundation of your house, a building that you are in charge of, a sidewalk, or any number of other structures. All of these are very important, so start having your surfaces inspected-it might just save your building AND your life.
